Kite Country	Kite Country, in the heart of Wales, is a landscape of open heather and grass moorland, ancient hanging oak woods and traditional hill farmland with its mosaic of hedgerows and stonewalls bounding wet rhos pastures and flower-rich hay meadows. Europe's most dense populations of buzzards and ravens occur here and the native red kite is now once again a common sight. Other birds of prey include peregrine, goshawk, hen harrier, merlin and barn owl. Special among the upland birds are red grouse, short-eared owl, curlew, snipe and whinchat. Woodcock, pied flycatcher, redstart, wood warbler and tree pipit are plentiful in the woodlands and the rivers are home to goosander, common sandpiper, dipper, kingfisher and grey wagtail.

Kitewatchers Wildlife Breaks explore this landscape and its wildlife, from the RSPB Carngafallt Reserve to the National Trust Abergwesyn Common and the Elan Valley Estate where the tumbling waters of the Rivers Claerwen and Elan pass through what many describe as the Lakeland of Wales before flowing into the spectacular River Wye. While otters have made a comeback in recent years, and the area remains a stronghold of the polecat, more easily seen are the badgers and occasionally hares. In summer the hay meadows and wet rhos pastures abound with flowers to delight the eye — heath spotted and butterfly orchids, eyebright, ragged robin and ivy-leaved bell flower. Kite Country offers a wide variety of outdoor activities: Walking, Golfing, Bird Watching, Pony Trekking, Mountain Biking, Fishing... . <- The Elan Valley lakes, only a 3 mile drive away, offer some of the most spectacular scenery in Wales.
The Spa town of Llandrindod Wells is 11 miles away. Builth Wells (13 miles) offers plays, films and other entertainment at the Wyside Arts Centre and the Royal Welsh showground where various activities take place. You will find the Heart of Wales Railway line holds a wealth of information on the area to the south of Builth Wells. As well as the accommodation available here at Gigrin Farm the following establishments also offer quality accommodation and activities in the locality...
