Visitors Centre
Food & Drink
There is a coffee shop which offers a range of delicious cakes, snacks, ice-creams and hot and cold drinks.
We have outdoor, ‘under-cover’ & indoor seating options available.
Picnic Area
You are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy. The picnic area provides fantastic views of the surrounding area.
Please be aware that we do not allow alcohol to be consumed on the site.
Gift Shop
The shop offers a range of Red Kite and bird souvenirs, plus a range of gifts (including bespoke clothing and throws, picnic baskets, walking sticks, stick seats, books, toys, cards and many more items).
Free Parking
The farm has free car parking which is close to all the amenities, and approximately 130 metres from the Hides. The car park can accommodate camper vans and other similarly large vehicles.
Car alarms – please do not enable your car alarm. It can be quite breezy on the farm and this can sometimes trigger alarms to go off, which will deter the Kites from coming down to feed
The main car park is located on the farmyard but we are able to provide limited parking immediately outside the hides for disabled persons (as per above).
As the farm can be very busy during the summer period/school holidays, and because the hides fill up very quickly, it is advisable to arrive, park up and acquire a place inside the hide well before kite feeding time.
Disabled Access & Facilities
Visitors with mobility issues may park adjacent to the Hides upon request.
The farmyard is tarmac coated, sloping in parts and there is a disabled toilet located on the farmyard.
Unfortunately, due to the restrictions of the farm buildings, we are limited for space in some areas. We have both indoor and outdoor seating areas which are wheelchair accessible.
The two ground floors of the coffee shop/gift shop are suitable for wheelchair users and are accessible via separate doors, but the upper floor is only accessible via a short set of steps.
Due to the uneven terrain the farm walk is not suitable for wheelchairs.
The Hides – three of our regular hides (2,3 & 5) are wheelchair friendly with ramps.
Coaches
We welcome coaches and large groups and have suitable parking.
Coaches must be booked in advance. For enquiries please email office@gigrin.co.uk
TOILETS
Male and female toilets, plus a disabled toilet. Located on the farmyard.
DOGS
Dogs are welcome across most of the farm but must be kept on a short lead at all times and under adult control. We do not allow dogs (unless working dogs) in the coffee shop, gift shop, Hide 5, and the specialist photographic hides.
FAMILY FRIENDLY
High chairs are available in the indoor seating area.
There is a short farm walk which offers beautiful views of the surrounding hills and Rhayader. It will typically take around 30-45 minutes to complete the walk. The walk starts at the viewing field, is way-marked, and finishes at the end of a wooded area by the standard hides.
There may be livestock (sheep) in the fields; please do not approach them, they may be curious but they will not harm you. The walk can be muddy and is uneven underfoot in parts so sturdy footwear is advised. The walk is not suitable for pushchairs or for the infirm. There are streams/open water along the walk so caution is advised. Children must be supervised at all times.
EDUCATION
We welcome School and University visits, but these must be booked in advance.
PLEASE BE AWARE
This is a working farm with livestock and equipment on the site; children must be supervised at all times. While the main public areas of the farmyard is tarmaced, other areas include grass and gravel, which may become slippery or muddy at times, so suitable footwear is advised.
There are birds (peafowl) and other animals (guinea pigs, cats, donkeys and sheep) on the farm, these animals must not be chased or taunted. If you touch any animals or their pen you must wash your hands.
COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILMING
Gigrin Farm welcomes all photographers and film makers. We have specialist photographic hides available which can be pre-booked.
