Gigrin Farm Red Kite
Feeding Centre

About Gigrin Farm

We are a small family-run farm, now famous for our Red Kite Feeding Centre. Hundreds of wild Red Kites feed here every day. It is a truly breath-taking spectacle which we hope you will come along and witness for yourself.

The Red Kite Centre is located in the most beautiful countryside, in the heart of Mid Wales, overlooking both the Wye and Elan Valleys, and just half a mile from the market town of Rhayader.

The Kites are fed once daily.  We have general hides for you to watch from, as well as specialist photographic hides, all of which are just a few metres away from where the Red Kites are fed. The meat is put out at 3pm (until the end of October when the clocks change) and the farm opens at 12.30. There is a car park, coffee shop (serving delicious cakes, ice-creams, snacks, hot & cold drinks), gift shop, picnic site, and farm walk on site. Everyone is welcome. We cater for families, specialist photographers, film-makersschools trips and coaches.

We limit numbers onto the farm each day to avoid overcrowding. Booking ahead is therefore recommended to prevent any disappointment.

Capture the white Kite

An extremely rare white leucistic Red Kite has been spotted in the Welsh hills - there are thought to be around 10 in the world.

If you’re lucky you may see a rare white ‘Red Kite’ come to the farm to feed on the

day of your visit. This is a ‘leucistic’ Red Kite, and is a very rare bird. As far as we know there are around 10 in the world, and we are privileged to see 3 of those here at the farm.

The leucistic Res Kites are pale/white in colour because they lack pigmentation. Leucism is defined as ‘an abnormal condition of reduced pigmentation affecting various animals (such as birds, mammals & reptiles) that is marked b y overall pale colouring. It is a genetic mutation which inhibits melanin & other pigments from being deposited in feathers, hair or skin’*
